ODDS AND INNS

AC went on the blink so painting and “Spring” (a week into Summer) cleaning slowed. My unit possibly predates the Moonlight, SeaVenture/Patience (my non-Native ancestors’ arrival ships) and the MUCH later Mayflower in AC years. I suspect the repairman keeps adding Freon (which should be illegal and probably is… but Fulton County is pretty lawless) so it’s working today and I picked up the sandpaper to finish the trim on the living room. Temps dropped from triple digits and high 90s to mid 80s two days ago. No doubt due to my clean living and straight and narrow path of righteousness. I was grateful as it made no AC bearable.
It’s 4th of July (wrote a book called Savannah Spell to Yorktown about that period of our history once) eve and the fireworks have started. Fireworks have only been legal in GA for a few years and are still somewhat restricted. On the other hand, two local men were cooking a 3AM meal last night and forgot about the loaded gun stored in the broiler (what were they thinking? “Oh, no you DID!” as Geoff Peterson on Craig Ferguson’s show says) and it shot one of them… or so their story in the AJC goes.
Which brings to mind the two big topics I’ve avoided: the BP oil spill and the World Cup. I found the US tie with Britain in the World Cup a bit suspect… as several other results there have been. (In fact sports in general have become suspect.) You’re not going to believe it (after all the efforts of Soccer Moms and politics) but the US as a whole doesn’t care. Get over it, you in the rest of the world. Two Oceans have protected us from soccer too long.
And the oil spill! Words can’t touch the problem so I won’t try. In spite of buying some US celeb’s centrifuge (and I’ve had more than my share of experience with those machine. Good luck!), having all my English friends contact me after eons of silence and sending Prince Harry over to West Point, it continues.
Spent far too much time trying to make reservations at inns for our annual beach vacation with my grandsons this week. At a very overpriced beach I don’t even like. Regained my sanity (at least temporarily so don’t despair) and told them we need to establish a new system of that family tradition.
Pictures of the new décor of my home will have to wait a week.
